SOMERSET PLACE, CRESSWELL, N.C. – This is a restored (before the war) slave plantation, built in 1787. It ran for 80 years, owned by the Collins family. When the Civil War ended in 1865, and Lincoln freed the slaves, the Collins family had to give the place up; they couldn’t run the place without the slaves.
