CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE – OUTER BANKS, N,C. – We had just arrived at Nags Head on the northern end of the Outer Banks, and, as soon as we checked into our motel, we decided to drive straight down to see this famous lighthouse, which has become a symbol of North Carolina’s coast. We had driven 438 miles from Shallotte, N.C. that day, but it was worth it. We fell in love with North Carolina – especially its huge, thick forests, breathtaking waterways and thousands of graceful birds, gliding on the wind, along the coastal waters, in tight formations.
